20120323 SA Mt Barker, Hahndorf
20120323 Arrived at Mt Barker and set the nav for Drew's but no one was home so we monopolized his back drive way. Des slept while I blogged waiting for Drew to finish work, we meet Jane and their kids Dan and Louie, had some drinks but were all in bed early.
20120324 Drew and Jane were kind enough drive us to Hahndorf established in 1949, now one of Adelaide Hills' most famous towns. Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement there is still a strong German flavour in Hahndorf, most evident in the small goods outlets and German bakeries that line the bustling main street. Also the former home and studio of artist Sir Hans Heysen - The Cedars. This is a truly awesome town, each cottage is decorated with grape fines which adds to it's elegance. This town makes for a great girls shopping trip, followed by a drinking section at the German beer house, if only.
26-03-2012 Des and I caught a bus into Adelaide to check out the city and pay some bills, this is the mall centre.
The
concept for the South Australian Museum originated in London with the
Foundation of the South Australian Literary Association on 29 August 1834. The
object of the society was to satisfy intellectual pursuits such as literature,
arts, history and natural science
The enterance to the Museum.
I tried to take some picture's through the glass of the Brown Hyena, but they didn't turn out so good, then after I photo shopped them they were a bit better, gotta love Lightroom. Man it had a huge head we didn't realise they were such large animals.
One of my favorites part of the gardens was the giant water Lily's. The blue Nile waterlily (Nymphaea caeruler) was sacred to the ancient Egyptians who believed that in the beginning, darkness ruled the world untill the lily rose from the Abyss. When the flower opened it's petal revealed young sun god sitting in it's golden heart and allowed life to begin.
Des told me a story back in 1988 when he traveled Australia in his Bedford he got pissed and ended up at the Botanical Gardens with the caretaker at the time and slept beside this cottage, at least he thinks this was it.

The Mall Fountain We walked the historical part of town and checking out the old buildings. |
First the Library one of the most impressive library's I've ever seen, then again I don't go into many library's.
Guess who? Yep that would be Donald Bradman they have a whole wall dedicated to the famous cricket player.
Now the Museum, which was also very impressive, this Monument stands at the entrance.

The Botanical Garden was a rush trip as we needed to catch the bus home before school finished or put up with screaming kids all the way home, nope not for me.

I have one more picture to add at Des's request for you Dan .
Des:I keep thinking about these shoes Dan are you Sure your not turning gay on us.
