20250904 After leaving Hervey Bay we passed through Howard and onto Childers for the night, we’ve been here many times and it’s one of my favourite towns to visit as we pass through on our travels.
05/09 Today we drive to Gin Gin to camp for the night and to catch up with our old mate Jody for lunch who owns a station at Mount Perry where we will spend a few days, but not tonight.
06/09 Look out Jody here we come all boozed up and ready for my famous camp stew, all you have to do is turn up with a friend or three and let us entertain you. Once there I prepared the stew then we crack a beer and settled in for a night of laughter around the fire. We had a couple campers join us for our stew, which must have been good as they went back for seconds. Talk about a funny night, we had the campers and Susie, Jodies step mum in stitches talking about our travels and some of the people we’ve met along the way, we even got onto some of the ailment you get as we grow old, that put a real spin on the night. There was a part when standing around the fire a snake passed through Desies legs, well he crapped himself and Sue called Des a gutless prick after he apparently pushed her towards the snake, which Des denies, but it made our night. Jody and I were the last standing seeing in the next day and going to bed at about 2:30am.
Off we go in the buggy to explore the land and check out the improvements this girl has done and I’m sure there’s heap’s known this workaholic.
Up we go, look out Des, remember the last time we went exploring with this girl we got stuck in an hole and had to evacuate the leaning cart real quick.
We stop to check out the new Dam in process.
I’m a fire bug but so this was right up my alley but stay clear of that thick smoke it’s not good in the eyes.
The workers (Jody, Des and Kat) hard at it, we picked up heaps of rocks not to mention the sticks while building fire breaks and running from one fire to other making sure it doesn’t get out of control, I decided I don’t want to be a firefighter.
Check out Des, he looks like a council worker watching a woman do all the work.
That’s it I’m done, I draw the line when the belly starts rumbling, we left home about 10ish and it’s now 1:45pm and I’m starving and out of water, tools down, I’m on strike.😠 Des and I took the quad bike and left them too it, we were stuffed, I don’t know how the hell she does it, this girl is like a bloody machine that never stops, once home we filled our bellies then crashed.
After a full day’s work Jody finally relaxes with a well deserved coldie. This is a true woman of the land,
deeply connected to rural life & agriculture, characterised by a strong work ethic, resilience, and a spiritual connection to the land, that’s our Jod in a nutshell, but throw in a beer and a strawberry daiquiri into the mix and you get a couple of giggling staggering piss head and a bloody fun night.🍻🍹
Jody took us for a drive to check out the Tirroan Hotel for lunch but all we could get was a Pizza but it was delicious and we got to see the Pub that’s also up for sale if anyone’s keen.
Tirroan Hotel interior and there’s camping out the back for a small fee.
Susie Wong just had to have the last say as she gives Des an ear full for the snake incident, I don’t think you will ever live that one down Des.
Susie Wong rescues a small Kingfisher but BJ’s thinking it’s desert.
09/10 Unfortunately it’s time to leave Elmhurst Station but I will return as soon as we can organise that girls camping week we discussed. As usual we had an awesome time, I got to cook my camp stew one night and Mince Jaffles another, toured the property and did some sight seeing, drank heaps but those strawberry daiquiris were the highlight, they are just too delicious. I think Jody was happy to see us leave after all the drinking, partying and late nights we had, maybe it’s time to retire Jod and come parting with me.🤷♀️
We turned off heading towards Eidsvold but decided to keep going to Mundubbera to camp at the Black Stump on the hill just out of town. We ended up staying two days just to relax and catch up on my blog.
Strawberry daiquiri’s at the Black Stump, Mundubbera, cheers Jod.
10/09We had a good couple of days taken over the shelter with a BBQ set up just for Des and I while chatting to any campers staying the night or traveler's stopping to walk there pets. It’s quite a busy free camp set off the road that accommodates that weary traveller but man it really shits me when they throw their cigarette butts all over the ground.
12/09We left for Durong located half way between Dalby and Munduberra that only has a corner store. We stayed the night and sat outside just watching many cars stopping for the amenities or a fag, there’s not much else do so I walk around with my trusty tongs picking up cigarettes butts.
13/09 Next stop Jandowae and as we drove into the town we both realised we’ve been here before. It where the Dingo Barrier Fence – ‘the longest fence in the world’ ends near Jandowae. The 5600 kilometres long fence and stretches to the Great Australian Bight.
A two-metre high dingo sculpture takes pride of place in Jandowae’s main street.
Timbertown Tree" in Jandowae, is a prominent feature related to the Jandowae Timbertown Festival
The Laundromat Mural
Established in 1934, this historic hotel features 15 comfortable rooms, each equipped with ensuite bathroom but the main attraction for me are the murals that surrounds the exterior.
20250406 What an amazing experience, we are so proud of our little man Hamish after being excepted to be part of a high level U12 squad to travel to Spain to participate in the MICFootball Tournament. (Costa Brava, Barcelona). MICFootball is one of the most prestigious youth football tournaments in the world that’s been running for over 20 years. Many of the highest quality and well known clubs from around the world participate in this tournament every year. Teams such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich just to name a few and now that day has finally arrived and we are all very excited. Des prepared us a late lunch, his famous prawn cutlets that we pigged out on before heading to the airport, we had a clear run all the way and arrived in ample time so after our goodbyes we watched as Des drove off until he returns in three weeks to pick us up. Des drops us off and with our suit case in tow we head inside to check in our luggage, let the fun begin. F...
20240911 On our way towards Tamworth, we heard there rain heading our way so our aim is to park at the lookout in Moonbi that has solid ground. The wood has been stripped around the camp site so I walked deeper into the bush and returned with a bag, there’s no stopping me when it comes to my fires. Des prepared dinner while I set up the fire, we had dinner then sat around my nice fire while sitting under the nights stars and enjoying a few ales. We had a new camper turn up today and camped just in front of us with his little Jack Russell Dog who came for a visit and took a liking to Des. The Moonbi Lookout, Perched on a huge granite outcrop at an elevation of 754m (2,473ft) above the sea level. The View overlooking the valley below, stunning. The Moonbi Lookout is off the New England highway then follow the Lookout Road to the car park at the top where there is plenty of room for overnight parking. When camping at the lookout follow the track and check out the old stone built amenities...
20250408 It’s still the same day as we continue our walk along the streets of Madrid, the main homes are units, mainly because i t has almost 3.5 million inhabitants and a metropolitan area population of approximately 7 million. Madrid began in the 9th century with the founding of a fortress named "Mayrit" by the Emir Muhammad of Córdoba, the city flourished under Arab rule but was later reconquered by Christians when it became part of the Kingdom of Castile. In 1561, Madrid was officially made the capital of Spain by King Philip III. C heck out these buildings they are so beautiful and unique and I did notice there are no cloths lines hanging outside, but don’t be deceived there’s a lot of little nooks and crannies hidden out the back of these buildings. Sharyn and Hamish were checking out another sports store when I noticed a heap of people outside of this restaurant, being me I went to investigate only to find out it’s the oldest restaurant in the world, dating back...
