20250827 Our intention’s was to head south but it was too bloody cold so north it is, I grab my bowl of fruit and take a seat in the Whinge Bago as we head out of our driveway, through Capalaba and towards the gateway. Here’s hoping for a hussel free trip as we head up the Bruce highway to a town with a pub, Gunalde which is tucked in the back streets just off the highway. A small town with the basic conveniences plus a pub and just around the corner if you’re in need of a morning caffeine hit is a cafe. There’s ever an electric car charging stations near the park but unfortunately NO Meals at the pub tonight, just our luck.
20250828 Des cooked breakfast in the park just up the road before leaving to check out a camp spot up the road before heading to Karen and Rooster’s at Glenwood where we piled into their car for a trip to Tin Can Bay. Every Thursday night there’s a jam session held at the Snack Shack where many locals, young and old come together for a night of jamming and local entertainment.
Karen, Des and I at the Snack Shack in Tin Can Bay where it’s BYO and you can feast on great fish and chips.
Here we were standing on the street in Tin Can Bay while enjoying a beer and listening to all the guys and gals blasting out tunes, as you can see a great night was had by all, even the photo bomber, there’s always one in every crowd.🤷♀️
Roosters, the grave digger from Gympie singing, Tennessee Whiskey, just awesome.
The gentleman singing is 79 with Peter on the accordion, it was so good to see these guys enjoying their night, it’s never too old to have fun.
The guy on the guitar certainly hasn’t lost his touch he was just amazing.
After the event was finished we retuned to Karen and Roosters to continue the night, Chris (Rooster) had cut down lots of branches so we had a fire in the back yard where we sat around until 3am when we finally dragged ourselves to bed.
08/29 We had a great night and Karen and I both woke with a bit of a hang over but vowed to do it again the next time we pass this way, maybe. Karen was quick to returned to bed after we left, these young’s ones just don’t have any stamina these days. We left for Urangan, a coastal suburb of Hervey Bay but got stuck in traffic for an hour or so, a bloody truck roll over on the highway, not happy Jan. We arrived at Karen and Crosie’s and parked in our usual spot with a water view (the dam). The last time we were here was in 2021 so we all have some catching up to do but an early night is what I need after last nights booze up, lucky for me these pair aren’t big drinkers anymore.
We joined Karen and Crosie for a bike ride along the bike route and stopped here for a quick photo on our deadly treadlies.
Stopping at the War Memorial, “REMEMBERING THE AUSTRALIAN WAR HORSE”
The men who went to fight in World War l, and who died so far away, are honoured and remembered each ANZAC Day.
We arrived home after a three hour ride feeling all fit and ready to face the world but we settled for a nice cold beer and a good old chat followed by a delicious roast dinner before returning to our van.
08/31 I joined Karen and Cros for a trip to the markets where I brought a new leather back pack bag. Once home we said our goodbye’s the left to catch up with more friends, Maggie and Bocco who live about 20 minutes away at Rivers Head. We were greeted with warm hugs and a tail wagging from Honey there dog. Once we settled in we cracked a beer and caught up on old times while Margie cooked up a storm in the kitchen, as she does, roast pork and veggies, ya gotta love that pork crackling.😋
09/01 Margie takes us for a drive to check out Jacks new home before heading for lunch at the Boat Club, we herd a little giggle from Margie only to realise she was lost, are you lost I said and out come that giggle, she finally found her way out but we soon learnt what that giggle meant, Margie’s lost again.🤣
Margie, Jack, Des and I at Jack’s home, gee I think it was about 2021 when we last saw Jack and now he’s a family man with two boys to contend with and he’s also a maths and science teacher at the local high school, well done mate.
Jacks home in Cradnish.
Hervey Bay Boat Club's modern makeover.
After lunch we went in search of the seafood shop when that little giggle returned, and sure enough someone was lost again as we all let out a giggle. Home again for a nanny nap then a few wines on the veranda where Des and Margie chatted about some old friends from the old days, we had a great catch up as we do with these pair and lots of laughs.
02/09 Off we go again this time we head to Dick who has just bought a home in Burrum Heads. The town was named after the Burrum River where, about 30 km upstream, coal was found and mined in the 1860s. Known as the Burrum and Howard coal fields, they continued to be mined until the 1990s. The origin of the name of the river possibly signified the river's rocky bed in a local Aboriginal language.
Burrum Heads water front where the fishing is great and Des recons you could catch crabs at the Island you can see in the distance, but first Dick needs a new boat.
Dick takes us for a drive to get some supplies for a BBQ and check out the foreshore, I was pleasantly surprised how untouched Burrum Heads is so far but for now its a nice beach front town for all to enjoy.
The local stores at Burrum Heads where so far there are no high rises, that’s what makes this place so special.
Over a few drinks I started unpacking the kitchen items and given out orders to start putting the lounge together so all in all we had a productive night getting rid of all the unpacked boxes and bags making it look more homely, good night.
03/09 Back into the kitchen to prepare food for a late lunch with Kazaa, Giles and Mick who we haven’t seen since they left the Redlands about a year ago.
Gilesy and Des up to no good by the looks on their faces.🫣
So here we all are in Dicks new back yard enjoying a few ales and to toast to old friend.
We had a great catch up with many friends along the way who we haven’t seen in years, there’s been lots of ales, many laughs and some great memories, but it’s time to move on and chock up some new memories with more friends as we head to Mount Perry.
Check out this beauty, The Black Jack and he’s getting around Hervey Bay, now that is one unit I would love to see inside.
And this is what he carries on the back, now that’s different.
After we said or goodbye’s to Dick we crossed over The Burrum River and head to Childers for the night then we start a new journey
20250406 What an amazing experience, we are so proud of our little man Hamish after being excepted to be part of a high level U12 squad to travel to Spain to participate in the MICFootball Tournament. (Costa Brava, Barcelona). MICFootball is one of the most prestigious youth football tournaments in the world that’s been running for over 20 years. Many of the highest quality and well known clubs from around the world participate in this tournament every year. Teams such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich just to name a few and now that day has finally arrived and we are all very excited. Des prepared us a late lunch, his famous prawn cutlets that we pigged out on before heading to the airport, we had a clear run all the way and arrived in ample time so after our goodbyes we watched as Des drove off until he returns in three weeks to pick us up. Des drops us off and with our suit case in tow we head inside to check in our luggage, let the fun begin. F...
20240911 On our way towards Tamworth, we heard there rain heading our way so our aim is to park at the lookout in Moonbi that has solid ground. The wood has been stripped around the camp site so I walked deeper into the bush and returned with a bag, there’s no stopping me when it comes to my fires. Des prepared dinner while I set up the fire, we had dinner then sat around my nice fire while sitting under the nights stars and enjoying a few ales. We had a new camper turn up today and camped just in front of us with his little Jack Russell Dog who came for a visit and took a liking to Des. The Moonbi Lookout, Perched on a huge granite outcrop at an elevation of 754m (2,473ft) above the sea level. The View overlooking the valley below, stunning. The Moonbi Lookout is off the New England highway then follow the Lookout Road to the car park at the top where there is plenty of room for overnight parking. When camping at the lookout follow the track and check out the old stone built amenities...
20250408 It’s still the same day as we continue our walk along the streets of Madrid, the main homes are units, mainly because i t has almost 3.5 million inhabitants and a metropolitan area population of approximately 7 million. Madrid began in the 9th century with the founding of a fortress named "Mayrit" by the Emir Muhammad of Córdoba, the city flourished under Arab rule but was later reconquered by Christians when it became part of the Kingdom of Castile. In 1561, Madrid was officially made the capital of Spain by King Philip III. C heck out these buildings they are so beautiful and unique and I did notice there are no cloths lines hanging outside, but don’t be deceived there’s a lot of little nooks and crannies hidden out the back of these buildings. Sharyn and Hamish were checking out another sports store when I noticed a heap of people outside of this restaurant, being me I went to investigate only to find out it’s the oldest restaurant in the world, dating back...
