20220703 Qld Augathella

20220703 It fells like we are going over the same places, Ooo dear, we are, maybe it’s time to buy an off road, but known how Des feels about his motor home that will never happen, but that’s ok at least we do get to go camping. Into Augathella we go and camped down the back of the Showgrounds where we have our own on suite with a shower, toilet and a wash basin, just so Des can wash the cloths while I collect the wood.

A loan butterfly sat and watched the fire with me until I realised it had passed to butterfly heaven, she was so pretty.

20220704 Augathella is rich in history so I might as well unhitch my bike and see what’s lurking in the back streets of this outback town. Augathella is one of those towns we often camp when ever passing this way. Before it was even named Augathella it was just a resting place for bullock teams lying at the convergence of three bullock tracks from Morven, Tambo and Charleville.

It was during the late 1800s and early 1900s, the notorious Bushrangers, the Kenniff Brothers, tethered their horses under this magnificent old Coolibah tree between their many cattle and horse stealing escapades.

There’s nothing like finding old abandoned run down house to explore in the back streets of country towns.

They were built to last in the old days and with a bit of tender loving care she could look as good as new again, well maybe a lot of work.

This mirror is the only item left standing in this old Queensland that the termites haven’t destroyed.

Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church opened in 1954.

We have been here many time’s and I had no idea there was a golf course and a club house hidden in the back streets but the golf course is a tad dry.

Well it’s clean and tidy and certainly not run down so it must get used on special occasions.

This old relic found a new resting place in the front yard of this home.

Many towns take ownership to tanks like this and I often wounded if they are still used or just part of their past.
I couldn't forget the movie about the outback kid “Smilie” based on Moore Raymond's novel of the same name, which was set in a fictionalised version of Augathella.
