20200621 Qld Noccundra
20200621 Nocccundra comes from the pastoral run, name in 1866, which derived from the Aboriginal words nocka, meaning water and tunga meaning smell. In 1882 a town came to life with the construction of the Noccundra Hotel, in fact it’s the only building.
On a walk the flies are bloody annoying so on goes the fly net to stop the buggers from ending up the nose.
The historical outback Noccundra Hotel is built of coarse sandstone which was apparently sourced from N.S.W. The hotel was operated in conjunction with a store and was well-placed along stock and trading routes to South Australia and New South Wales, serving travelers and nearby pastoral stations, but the closure of the store in 1933 and then the police station in 1959 led to the township decline.
The Wilson River passes through the land belonging to Nockatunga Station, which was originally settled by the Drynan brothers in 1868, it played a very large part in the settlement of the area.
I here this strange noise flying past and I grab my camera a manage a shoot of the Broglas, which are also renown for their elaborate dance.
Mans best friend, XXXX
These cute little fellows put on quit a display hopping from tree to tree.
23-06-2020 It’s time to leave so while Des completes packing up I grab my camera and go in search of the Broglas, heading in the direction of Quilpie so Des could pick me up along the road, but after walking a few Ks, I’m thinking, where the hell is he, so I decided to turn back thinking something was wrong. I arrived back at the Hotel and the publicans were standing outside and said, have you lost someone, they told me Des was quite frantic driving up and down looking for me, how the hell could he miss me I’m the only person on the road in the direction of Quilpie. Opps, silly me went in the wrong way. With there two ways on 15 the publican tried to contact Des but couldn’t get him so his wife was kind enough to drive me to meet Des who was on his way back, poor Des though I went bush walking and a snake 🐍 got me.
A native bush plant, quite pretty I thought, I was tempted to bring some home, at least I wouldn't have to water it..
From Noccundra, if you head in the wrong direction.
