20150728 WA Carnarvon to Coronation Beach
20150728 After checking out Carnarvon where we finally got to buy some fresh prawns for the first time on our trip we found a sports ground with a tap (very unusual) so of cause Des took advantage and washed the van. I’ll need your help said Des, sure I said as he climbs on top of the fan, dunk the broom in the bucket and pass it up to me he said, why didn’t you take the bucket up with you, how am I going to carry that up there full, why didn’t you fill it up there, I never thought of that, Ge! It’s not rocket science Des, don’t be smart Lee, it’s called, looking outside of the circle Des, Daa!. I also took advantage and washed our cloths and in between helping Des I washed my hair, we’re on a roll Des, we could camp here, and once all our chores were completed we had a nanny nap waiting to see if we might get kicked out but all was good.
We woke to a morning of fog and had to wait till it cleared which never bother us.
We stopped at Edaggee Rest Area for the night and had drinks with other travellers before hitting the sack.
30-07-2015 We left late again thanks to the fog but then again we always seem to be the last to leave.
Des spotted a lookout so up we go to check it out check, now I could handle staying here, unfortunately we hadn’t been on the road long so we must keep going, bugger.
At the very tip of the lookout was a memorial with many objects left in memory for those who had passed away, now that's what I want so much better than a boring old cemetery.
At the bottom of the lookout was this sign and no one seemed to be able to work out what it says, can you solve it?
Driving into Northhampton we are hit with a thick storm turning the weather really cold.
Northhampton is a lovely little town about 50 odd ks before Geraldton if you are heading towards Perth. In September the locals take a step back in time to display there colourful patchwork quilt work through the town on the historic buildings to celebrate its heritage.
In search for a place to camp the night we found behind the town an historical site where in 1861 Harrocks laid the foundation for the first church in the district. The circumstances and dedication with which it was built are probably the most unique in Australian history, it was the intention of Harrocks to build a church that could be used by all, no single denomination could lay claim to it. To emphasis this he had this text inscribed on a stone built in the church: “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all people”. He died in 1865 at his home of a short illness, he was the pioneer of mining in the district and his loss will be felt by many.

What is left of the historical Gwalla Church, what shame.
“The poor have lost a friend” His name was given to the town’s tranquil seaside retreat – Harrocks Beach.
The fallen graves of the 1800's but still some headstones are well preserved although the grand is slowly swallow the remains.
Some of the few left standing after a hundred and thirty years, he must have been from a wealthy family.
Our view from the old historical church site where we camped for the night.
01-08-2015 Coronation Beach is renowned as one of the finest windsurfing locations in the world and host many windsurfing competitions, attracting international visitors every year.
The scene as we drive over the
hill to Coronation Beach and again it is blowing a gale.
We walk to the lookout to take in the scene but sooky bum leaves because it’s too cold, well put some warm clothes on ye dick.
I have to say W.A has some exceptionally beautiful beaches, I would love to be here in the summer so I can really get to enjoy them.
02-08-2015 Some of the sites have small sheds to camp next to so we made the most of it and had a few drinks with neighbours shelters out of the wind and trying to stay warm. We had a great night chatting with Jan and Geoff so after saying our good buys we left for Geraldton.
Des and Geoff pose for us before we leave this grand beach.
The End
