20200621 Nocccundra comes from the pastoral run, name in 1866, which derived from the Aboriginal words nocka, meaning water and tunga meaning smell. In 1882 a town came to life with the construction of the Noccundra Hotel, in fact it’s the only building. On a walk the flies are bloody annoying so on goes the fly net to stop the buggers from ending up the nose. The historical outback Noccundra Hotel is built of coarse sandstone which was apparently sourced from N.S.W. The hotel was operated in conjunction with a store and was well-placed along stock and trading routes to South Australia and New South Wales, serving travelers and nearby pastoral stations, but the closure of the store in 1933 and then the police station in 1959 led to the township decline. The Wilson River passes through the land belonging to Nockatunga Station, which was originally settled by the Drynan brothers in 1868, it played a very large part in the settlement of the area. 20200620 The outback roads are long and narrow as we check for truck over each bend but so far we have only passed one car on the Nockatunga Warry Warry Gate Road and we are pleasantly surprised how smooth the roads are. The sign says it all, and stay out, we are loving the boarders being closed, there's no one in the free camps and wood is plentiful. On our way to Noccundra when we came across this bull wandering aimlessly across the road and he’s certainly in no hurry. The he stops checking us out, Des sure isn’t getting out to move him on as he blasts his horn. Then off he goes with his frisky sons in toe.  One of many wild flowers in outback Queensland, rather pretty I thought. 20200619 On our way to Charleville for supplies before heading to Wyandra for lunch then stop to fill up on water at Cunnamulla before heading then to Eulo to camp the night. At the camp ground in Eulo Des tries for Yabbie's but returns empty, arr never mind better luck next time. The Paroo River in Eulo, it sure looks like a breading ground for Yabbie's but maybe it's a bit chilly this time of the year. 20-06-2020 As we hit the road we head to Thargomindah travelling along Adventure Way, a part of Queensland that is new to us as we take in the different sites along the way. Passing a sign to Currawinya Park only it's on the Queensland/New south Wales border near Hungerford but unfortunately with the border closure it's a no go zone.  The cattle roam free in this part of the world as we slow the van to pass them by. 20200610 We’ve noticed the town’s are much quieter than usual and there are certainly less vans on the road which I’m sure the truckies are loving but the town folk are struggling with many shops shut down, but don't despair, Mr Cathcart is here to spread his fortune throughout your town, the Reject Shop has some great bargains😂. While Des stocks up on our supplies I cash in my winning scratchy I was given for my birthday, $50, the most I've ever won 🌈. Just out of town we found a lovely camp spot for the night, we sure could have a great fire with all the wood about but I don’t want to drink and sure enough if I light a fire 🔥 I will certainly drink. 20200614 Twenty Ks down the road is the town of Wallumbilla who cater for the likes of us with hot showers and powered sites for a $20 fee and we are certainly in need of a good wash after three days camping on the Lagoon. After a shower we waddle down to the old   Federal Hotel for a meal  and the home of the Iron Jack add. Waking to fog surrounding Wallumbilla so we take our time waiting for it to lift.  15-06-2020 Next stop Roma to catch up on some business before heading to the Rifle Range to catch up on some much needed washing.
