20240907 NSW Burren Junction to Wee Waa

20240907 The shortest route we were going to take to Barra Junction we were told is in bad condition so we decided to play it safe and head back towards Walgett, turning off onto the Kamilaroi Highway, OMG some of these roads with new bitumen are rougher than the older roads, they really know how to lay new bitumen out here, NOT. We passed thousands of acres of wheat and I just saw a crow on the edge of the road feasting on a snake. Passing through Cryon we follow the train line to our new destination, Burren Junction, another Artisan Bath in the middle of nowhere, the last time we were here was in 2012 so we were surprised to find they now charge $5 for the night and what was even more surprising was we camped on the footpath outside of the Baths and still got charged yet all the other nice new and much cleaner Baths we just left, are all free.๐Ÿคท‍♀️

We were once told by a farmer that this yellow, what we thought is a weed, is poisonous to cattle yet it’s growing everywhere out this way.

Thanks to good old Google the plant is called Rapeseed, also known as rape and oilseed rape, is a bright-yellow flowering member of the family Brassicacee, cultivated mainly for its oil-rich seed, which naturally contains amounts of erucic acid. It’s an excellent source of vitamin E and a strong antioxidant, which can support eye and skin health.

The machinery of today, thank god he has no trouble getting off the road to let us pass.

More silos on our way to the Artisan Baths.

20240908 This could have bee a nice stay if it wasn’t for a bloody dog yapping all day and then it started extra early this morning, I went for a relaxing soak in the baths and just outside was the yapping dog and still yapping, I was quick to tell it to shut the hell up, not just once but a few times, then as I entered the Baths this guy gave me a dirty look, and yes he was the bloody owner, he’s the one I should have abused. So here were all the campers trying to have a nice relaxing soak in the Artisan Baths while this guys dog that was tied up at the gate barked constantly, what the hell is wrong with people, we never heard another bark after that.

The Burren Junction Bore Bath was first sunk in 1921. Water ran from the bore into a series of bore drains (ditches) which distributed the water around the district for various agricultural and domestic uses.

I was out for a walk when Des joined me and he went to return to the van he turned around and almost stood on this guy, he scooted off real quick and so did Des.

We left for Wee Waa to camp at the Showgrounds and so Des can wash the bugs off the front of the van, again. We had a quiet night, I sat blogging while watching movies and Des was restricted to the bedroom watching his Landline and channel surf the news, as he does.

20240909 We drove back to town and walked the streets, there was a young guy in a suit handing out voting pamphlet, we’re from Queenslander we said then a farmer behind us told the councillor to get that fancy suit off and get some work cloths on, well, we all burst out laughing. Des brought a shirt at Vinnies for $7 compared to $20 in Walgett, I brought a small broom to wash my van with and we left for Narrabri just 30kms up the road to stock up on supplies.

Wee Waa (pronounced "we war') is known as The Cotton Capital of Australia, it was first introduced into the area in the 1960s, intensive research and improved irrigation have created the largest cotton yields in Australia, today that has been expanded with rice and wheat.

The Main Street (Rose Street) of Wee Waa

The Imperial Hotel in Rose St was the first three-storied building in north-west NSW.

The Town Clock

On leaving Wee Waa we passed this building and wondered what it was and good old google helped me out. It was the super new and very modern Wee Waa High School. Almost $28 million of the $49 million project was allocated in the current financial year. Wow! Not a bad looking school for a small outback town.

The End
