20220618 Qld Sapphie, Alpha to Jericho

20220618 It is in Sapphire where mining began in the 1800s and its still going strong today, the region is home to one of the richest sapphire fields in the southern hemisphere and if your keen on trying your luck you will need to to buy a fossicking licence first.

The Pick, Shovel and Sieve, represents mining in this area.

This General store and caravan park is all that operates in Sapphire.

The creek bed at the back of the caravan park is dry but that didn’t stop some keen people trying there luck in panning and apparently your best opportunity of finding stones is at night when they sparkle.

After wandering the streets we came across this gem shop where I was hoping to get my ring fixed, but unfortunately it could take a few months because the guy was so busy.

The Monument commemorates Archibald John Richardsons discovery of sapphire and zicons on the retreat Creek here
at Sapphire in the year 1878.
We stopped for an ice cream at the top shop and even though it says it’s open and it’s full of little treasures inside there was no one in sight.

Well I guess the sign says at all, there’s definitely no fuel here.

With our walk of the town completed we head back to the general store for an ice cream before heading back to camp for nanny nap and await happy hour, well there's nothing eles to do in this town and Des is far from keen to go gem hunting.

Ya! It’s happy hour so we grab a drink and walk the grounds when we came across what we thought was a furniture truck, the writing on the back says,
"Dodgy Joe on the go tour of 2022".
Come on up they said, is it safe I said, doesn’t Dodgy Jo live here, I climbed the back and into the truck. The fold out veranda is the best, I can just see myself sitting up there while drinking a glass of red wine or three.๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿท
Joe turned 60 and decided it’s time to pack up and go travelling so he turned his truck into a camper and hit the road. He still has some work to do but he has all the comforts of home.
It was rather late at night when I heard a car pull up and thought, that’s a bit strange and I sure wasn’t going outside to check it out so I went back to bed.

20220619 The next morning when we opened our door only to find we a hippy from W.A who’s travelling around looking for gemstones. Sean was his name and omg he could talk under water, he showed us his Gems, that to us looked just like rocks but to him he was holding some very rare stones that are worth lots of dollars, yet here he was driving around in a dilapidated car. He was definitely a Stoner but I scored some stones and a little treat to take with me as his aim was for me to get them identified and contact him with the results, Des recons he's a nutter they are bloody rocks, gee lets go gem hunting for some rocks, how exciting, NOT!

So what do ya recon, rocks or gems๐Ÿ˜•

Des is sick of hearing about these rocks, come on he says we need to go, Me:why do you have a wedding to get to.๐Ÿ˜… We left for Jericho when we noticed some murky creeks that we were sure would have yabbie’s in so Des was quick to turn around to check it out. He grabbed his pots while I grabbed my wood bag and off we went down the road searching for that special spot to drop his pots.

There’s a few creeks around here that look inviting for yabbie, so he scatted his pots around then we just sat back and enjoyed our surroundings.

It’s a nice change to finally see water in the creeks out this way as normally they are dry.

This is us for the night, we have heaps of wood now so all I have to do is poor a wine and watch Des walk back and forwards checking his pots.

20220620 Des collects his pots but the yabbies didn’t come out to play last night but he did manage to catch a few through the day. We left for Alpha were I read the town has 28 murals, bull shit said Des, well that’s what Google says, why wouldn’t it be true, then we followed the map into the town centre when we both realise we have been here before and yes there is Murals all through the town, so there Mr smarty pants.๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜‚

One of the 27 murals scattered through the town, we also remembered they had a nice pie shop in town so we indulged ourselves before moving on.

The last Time in Jericho we stayed with Dick on the river but we heard it’s pretty much packed so we decided to stay at the Showgrounds where we can grab a hot shower.

SEE YA
