20210707 Qld Pentland

20210707 Heading to Charters Towers and Wendy and I escape Des and go in search of a coffee shop while Des get some supplies before we head to the tiny town of Pentland.  Passing through Balfes Creek and Homestead onto Pentland for a couple of nights, established in the mid 1850s, Pentland has a big history to share and gold was what started this town off in 1867 but it was the Meatworks that opened in 1943 to meet the additional needs of Australian and American forces arriving in north Queensland during world War II that kept it going.  Pentland takes its name from the Pentland Hills to the north of the town, which were named after the Pentland Hills in Scotland, originally named Betts Creek, the name was changed in 1885.

So this is our camp for the night and it looks so peacefull, their's no hide from me Wendy, I will get you eventually.

Each night we sat outside around the table having a few quite wines while watching the trucks pass by with there light beeming, then the Hag (Wendy) appears snapping photos, she's worse than me.

Pentland Hotel is a small, country pub offering cold drinks, meals, takeaways, motel rooms and free unpowered onsite caravan parking.

This gorgeous little shop is stocked with everything from sewing and crochet to pottery and painting only it was closed.

Every town have there murals and this is Pentland's at the local pool.

The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

Old police cell, moved here in 1885

That was in her young days when Wendy was a rebel, don't worry there's still that rebal their.
Get me out of here, Hag.
I found another Mural while walking around the streets.

This would be Pentland's rather old garage but he has many old relics squatting out the back.
Garden art, love it.

Lets stay here Des said, this is a nice spot he said, well! if the trucks passing through all night wasn't bad enough then we had the frieght trains, then to top it off Wendy starts up her hot water that sounds like a 727 jet taken off, turn that noisy thing off I said, get stuffed she said, if you want to camp in this noisy place you can just put up with it, and I'm choosing the next camp. Well! I never.

Our whole trip we've been looking for the saucepan in the sky and we still can't find it so Mrs smarty pants drew it in the sky after I told her to get off her phone and learn how to use it and this is what she created.
