20210703 Qld Mt Garnet to Greenvale

20210703 Well what can I say, here we are in Mt Garnet, a busy little town as far as travellers passing through and stopping to fill there tanks and grab a bit to eat before hitting the road again, some call it a day and set up camp at the free camp at the back of the Motel/Garage. We stayed a couple of day and walked the street checking out the houses scatted through the area, while on our walk we ran into a chap picking lemons and, OMG I don't think Des or I have ever seen a tree so packed with Lemons, help yourself he said, it's a mining house and no one lives here, well you don't have to ask me twice.

It's one of those old Queensland Hotel in need of repair and the only one I've come across that doesn't serve meals at all, but there's a chef  that cookes for the mine up the road and apparently there are only two miners, what a waste.

A local group, led by indigenous artist Dianne Hooligan, completed this mural in 2014, from an original drawing by Sherrie Vincent of the region's history and character.

It was once a garage but now it's a storage shed for many old wares.

This old shack stands beside the disgarded garage as a reminder of times gone by.

We camped down the back for a couple of days and if you look close you can see our van and you wouldn't beleave it but,we had a camper trailer park right beside us with six kids, the youngest about 18 months, I was so excited, NOT, but the Mum did apologize in advance.

There was once a laundromat at the camp grounds until the local kids decided the money belonged to them and kept steeling it.

20210704 Wendy our friend is camped at Fletcher Creek so we are heading that way and hopefully catch up with her before she takes the bolt, we packed up and left heading to Atherton's and passing Forty Mile Scrub National Park

A lot of nothing.

Talk about revenue collecting at it's best, we're in the middle of no were, no one in sight, on a good road were you could put your foot down and this guy pulls someone up and books them, really.

Greenvale is the home of the Three Rivers Hotel made famous by Slim Dusty with the song of the same name. The township was built in the 1970s, then the Greenvale Nickel Mine opened in 1973 opening the gates to mine workers. The town grew with a population of around 3000, until the Mine closed in 1993 leaving the population to 150 today.

We stopped at Greenvale for lunch, another busy business in the middle of no where.

We pulled up behhind this 4 wheel drive when I spotted these little fellows cuddled up on the back of the ute, arn't they cute.

The mural depict's rescuers in the outback.

Between Charters Towers and Greenvale is the Bluewater Springs Roadhouse where we were going to stay after we were told they had $9 meals but their were not powered sites left, be sure you sign in for covid or you will get your head bit off.

A flyby shoot of the river as we pass over the bridge, she's getting a bit dry.

WE'RE COMING WENDY
