20210329 NSW Delungra to Bundarra

Image
20210329 With easter around the corner Des goes in search of a camp where we can settle in before the mad rush of camper's hit the road, he found it and only 100 ks up the road, that will do me. Entering Delungra and over a one way bridge into a town that has a reputation as the Poorest, Happiest Town in Australia" but the Tax Office named it as the lowest earning town in the country with the average resident earning just $21,691 ($17,089 USD) a year, making it the poorest region in Australia. But don't blink or you will miss it as we drive through the town of Bundarra who takes clame to the legend of the bushranger known as Thunderbolt (Fred Ward) who in 1868 stole two horses belonging to police inspector Brown.   We find a spot on the hill overlooking the camp, fire pit, and all to our self for the easter break and was having a lovely quite time, but then this bloody Winnebago decided to camp beside us with two dogs and we all know how much I love dogs. And here are the ...

20210327 NSW Warialda to Cranky Rock

Image
20210327 The road from Coolatai to Warialda was rough and bumpy but that's normal for N.S.W roads, once we arrived we walked the town and Des couldn't remember it but then again we really didn't stay long last time.  We walked the town and was told that we could camp straight down the road at the sports ground only when we arrived there was a caravan park there, we can’t camp here I said, then Des asked a couple of locals who told us about Cranky Rock and after checking it out we headed the van south for 8 ks  to camp up for a couple of days.  This is one of many quirky displays you can sometimes see travelling from town to town. Warialda display throughout the town these funny captions but this one in particular grabbed my attention as Des is always saying to the grand-kids, here pull my finger, for the same reason. I found my car in Warialda, I wish. Warialda's street view with its display of  historic buildings. We arrived at Cranky Rock Reserve camp and sit back ...

20210322 NSW Yetman to Coolatai

Image
20210322 The clouds are are getting darker and it's starting to rain so with the packing completed we head into town to restock out supplies before heading to Yetman to camp at a caravan park to build up our solar, hopefully dry out a bit and see the rain out.  Here we were all ready to settle in for a few day until we found out there's no reception and if we're going to be stuck in the van we so need TV so Des decided to continue on to  Warialda.   Yetman is a tiny town with very little to see and with a population of 178 but this mural did catch my eye, the artist, John Murray is known for creating artworks with a sense of fun and the recent Yetman work is no exception, with a fishing kangaroo promoting local angling opportunities while two charismatic emus watch on. And the story goes, a black Panther escaped from a zoo or circus, the Americans brought it over as a mascot in WW2, but it was in Coolatai in 1958 that the biggest “panther outbreak” occurred when a 13-year...

20210319 Qld & NSW Texas

Image
20210319 Texas was first settled in 1843 taking its name from the Texas pastoral station being the largest landholding in the area. The station had been the subject of a land dispute and it is thought it was named "Texas" because of the famous land dispute between Mexico and the USA.  Texas is a quaint town, very neat and tidy that has the required shops to restock your supplies and a must do free camp ground to sit back and enjoy. The Spirit of Texas sculpture was commissioned after the devastating floods of 2011. The design was influenced by the abundance of water birds which appeared after the floods - a symbol of the Texas community's ability to overcome adversity. The old bridge which was once the main road into N.S.W runs over the Dumaresq River, so at the moment I'm standing in N.S.W. With all the rain about the river comes alive and once again she's flowing. Yaa! it's happy hour so with a coldy in hand we sit back and enjoy the quite while watching th...
