20210327 NSW Warialda to Cranky Rock
20210327 The road from Coolatai to Warialda was rough and bumpy but that's normal for N.S.W roads, once we arrived we walked the town and Des couldn't remember it but then again we really didn't stay long last time. We walked the town and was told that we could camp straight down the road at the sports ground only when we arrived there was a caravan park there, we can’t camp here I said, then Des asked a couple of locals who told us about Cranky Rock and after checking it out we headed the van south for 8 ks to camp up for a couple of days.
This is one of many quirky displays you can sometimes see travelling from town to town.
Warialda display throughout the town these funny captions but this one in particular grabbed my attention as Des is always saying to the grand-kids, here pull my finger, for the same reason.
Warialda's street view with its display of historic buildings.
We arrived at Cranky Rock Reserve camp and sit back a relax while we wait for the caretaker to turn up.
20210328 The name Cranky Rock was derived from an old legend which said that an old ‘Cranky Chinaman’ jumped to his death from the highest point of the balancing rocks after being accused of some wrongdoing. Hidden in behind the camp is a tranquil natural bushland surrounded by some amazing and I must say fascinating balanced granite boulders at the edge of Reedy Creek. Composed of Late Permian, (being the last period of the Paleozoic era) age Dumboy- Gragin Granite which is approximately 245 million years old of what appears to be the stacking of boulders being the actually result of millions of years of weathering eroding the joints between slabs of rock, leaving rounded tors which will eventually topple.
The suspension bridge allows access to the balancing boulders awaiting you.
OMG! now that's what I call a balancing rock, I can sure see how it is said they will eventually topple, get me out of here.😬
Now that's what I call the WOW factor.
While their be sure to take a walk to the observation platform near the top of the main boulder group.
In 1987 a grant was given to the Yallaroi Shire to construct a marsupial proof fence costing $50,000 and covering 27.89 acres but the care of the animals was governed by the Exhibited Animal Act in 1986 and it was shut down.
Why the hell would you build a huge fence in the middle of nowhere to enclose animals the have survived here for thousands of years.
20210329 We had a big night on the piss heading back to Lynn and Les's camp after the fire pit for just a few more only the next day wondering if it was all worth it. As usual Des was fine but us piggies who never know when enough is enough were a tad seedy.
This little fellow show's his cute face every afternoon, I just want to cuddle him.
But as it was our last night we decided to have just a couple so we ended up at the fire pit once again. Ever afternoon Todd the caretaker lights the campers a fire and we all congregate with our favorite ale while enjoying many laugh and as usual Des get's targeted because his feet can't touch the ground but we are all were quick to jump on Craig after some of his comments about never checking the water and oil in his van, you've got a keeper their Tracy as she adds another task to her list of things check.
Craig takes the girls, Lynn Tracy and I for a stroll down a track to a lovely water hole.
It's beautiful he said, It's not cold he said, it was bloody freezing but the water after running through the rocks was so fresh you could drink it.
Great Time's with Great People
