20200919 Qld Mt Alford to Imbil

20200919 With the borders still closed we have no idea where to go or which way to head so we pack the van and drive towards Warwick, Mt Alford has a free camp behind the pub and it's close to lunch so, Mt Alford it is. Mount Alford was previously known as Reckumpilla then it was renamed after Thomas Alford who managed Coochin Coochin station from 1868 onwards.

A scenic view on our way to Mt Alford

The Mt Alford Hotel, a great place for a Sunday ride and a great lunch and if you can it also has free camping at the back.

Waiting for lunch at the Mt Alford.

Built in 1880 as a general store but now has been transformed into a small Brewery but also a cafe.

The interior of the Brewery, branding was integral in the success of the label,“We wanted something that every Australian would be able to connect with, so we’ve used some classic larrikin identities as part of our marketing plan.

20-08-2020 We wake to the strong winds and when Des looked outside all he could see was a dust storm heading our way, o dear what do we do, so after some discussion we decided to return home and wait it out.

22-08-2020 With the dust storm gone we head to the tiny town of Imbil in the Mary Valley which was first established in 1868 at the start of the gold rush in the area and was named after the Imbil homestead and pastoral run, it is said that the name was derived from an Aboriginal word that described scrub vine. The area was taken up as a sheep-grazing run in the early 1850s, but changed to a cattle run when the sheep were found to suffer from foot rot and the effects of spear grass.

The main street of Imbil, the white Cross commemorates the men and woman who served and died in WW2.

The Railway Hotel came to life in 1914 as the population grew in response to subdivision and an emerging timber industry, its name came from the Mary Valley railway link which was extended to Brooloo in 1915, prompting a second wave of trade, prosperity and growth for Imbil.
