20200623 Qld Quilpie to Kayabra Creek
20200623 On our way to Quilpie and we pass three Brolgas paddling around in the creek and once again I miss a great flyby shoot of one my favorite birds, shit, bugger, bum.
Camping at the Bulloo river for the night so we can book into the Channel Country Tourist Park early the next morning to do some much needed washing.
We pull into the park and Des goes to pay and when he says his name, a head pops up and says, I know that name, as Ken who once lived in Cleveland comes out. Ken use to play in a band around Cleveland and knows Micky Chapman, Neil Price and many others, at first Des couldn't remember him but as the night rolled on the memories came seeping back. It's such a small world, the people you run into on the road.
Ken lights the fire while Des chats to Lew a lovely chap who told us because he travels on his own, no one talks to him, arr that's so said. He normally only has two beers but as he was having a good old chin wag he stayed for one more. I cooked dinner in the camp kitchen then we sat about the fire while having a few ales.
25-06-2020 With all the washing caught up on, hair washed and my blog up to date we pack up and say our goodbyes. Des stops at the butchers and says, can I have two of those chops without that shit on them, and everyone in the shop peed themselves laughing. Des is still keen on catching some yabbies so we headed to Kyabra Creek to camp for a few days and hope the flies and mosquitoes have hibernated for the winter.
Lew came to say his fair wells and hands me an opal rock he dug up from Duck Creek, that was so sweet.
OMG I have never seen so many Eagles 🦅 this trip.
The Wedge-Tailed Eagle wingspan can reach more than 2.3m long, (about 7 2/1 feet) and its long wedge-shape tail and legs are feathered to the base of the toes. They are mid brown in color but becomes progressively blacker as they get older.
Not a bad size, check out that claw, Des pulls them off after collecting a lot then cooks them up for a bit of a pig out.
Our camp on Kayabra Creek for the next few days with heaps of wood and not a camper in site.
The sunset over Kayabra Creek, you can’t bet a beautiful sunset while camping.
Kayabra Creek, she a bit lower than last year when we were here but at least there's non of those annoying little black flies hanging around.
28-06-2020 After having the camp ground to ourselves for the passed four days, all our wood is used so we opted for a quite night for our last night when a van pulls up right in front of us, are they for real we say, the hole camp is empty and they park in front of us. Although we were not impressed Desies eyes nearly popped out of his head when he lifted down two cool lite boxes full of yabbies, well! Des became his bet bud.
So much for not drinking tonight as we joined our new neighbors sitting around their fire for drinks when I spotted these birds and ran for my camera for a snap shoot of the local patriot, such pretty birds.
