20190523 Qld XXXX Hill to Longreach
20190523 After leaving Stonehenge we head north to Longreach where Des was telling me of this lovely camp spot he stayed on his last trip, but the only thing that has me concerned is its at a cattle yard, so we shall just wait and see, but first I want to check out a couple of tourist spots a couple of k’s up the road.
XXXX Hill
Is a self-explanatory name – an infinity lookout, and that it is.
But the real reason people stop here is to take in the views of our amazing outback, the Thompson River floodplains and the surrounding Johnstone Ranges.
The Address Book
The idea of the address book is to build up Stonehenge history by gathering rocks and use them to spell out either your name or where you’re from. This tradition started years ago by the then mailman, but I don’t know why.

Now for that long trip along this narrow stretch of road to Longreach.
The good thing about the outback is you can stop anywhere for a toilet break, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go, gee he’s really deep in thought.π
Opp’s, busted.π
After just over two hours of travelling we arrive in Longreach, now where’s this lovely camp spot Des.
As we drive into the sales yard Des stops beside this stagnate creek, are you for real, prickles cover the ground and where these no prickles these dirt, but we do have showers in the yard so I agreed to stay the night only.
With not much to do we decided to walk the yards as I take my usual photos only I wish I had my camera on me yesterday because this long trough was lined to the end with cow heads feasting on hay.
Des just loves his cow's it takes him back to his child hood day living on the farm at Mt Cotton when he had a calf that he even took to school for show and tell.
24-05-2019 After being woken through the night by cattle trucks coming and going and lets not forget the trains picking cattle up from the yard at odd hours through the night, we packed up and left for Longreach, where we've been on one of our many trips travelling so it's just to restock and have lunch.
I spotted this cool truck in the streets of Longreach, and no the cow isn't real.
On our way to the RSL for lunch when saw the house of bra's, ha Des your a tit man, stand over there for me, the spoil sport wouldn't be in it.
Unfortunately Lyceum Hotel burnt down on the 20th June 2018 while the owner watched the shocking vision from St George after a call from his daughter.
The Longest Line World Records for camping vehicles was being held in Longreach, well lets get the hell out of here, but I must admit I was curious.
Passing the Qantas museum on our way to Barcaldine and hopefully stay at Lara Wetlands.
After phoning Jodie to meet us in town for lunch as Des wasn't keen on driving up her 13ks of bull dust dirt road, she informs us the road had been graded and she's had over 100 vans in because of the longest line record in town, so Des said he would check it out and sure enough the road was great, yes, we're going to Lara, how excited am I.
