20190512 Qld Mulga Creek Hotel, Bourke to Cunnamulla
20190512 Travelling along the Mitchell Highway for another 203 km trip to reach Bourke with nothing but the wide-open space when all of a sudden, we spot that little country pub standing on its own and still operating.
We knew that cyclone Trevor had caused some flooding and water was still heading our way then coming into Eulo the road conditions show’s Hungerford closed, but lucky for us we’re not going that way.
After driving for over an hour it’s a welcome relief to stop at a country pub to check it out and stretch our legs, the Mulga Hotel was built in 1984 and is a great pub to stop for refreshments after a long drive, but unfortunately, Des isn’t aloud, Ha! Ha.
If your ever-passing Byrock, stop at the Mulga Creek Hotel and check out the bar decorated with old hats signed by their original owner and leaving it as a reminder of the good times had by many travellers passing by.
Just 20ks out of Bourke when I saw a rest spot, but do we chance it and stay the night, then Des turned around, ya why not. Then I read, two campers were punched, kicked and hit with tree branches by five men described as Aboriginal/Torres strait Inlander appearance carrying a gun, knife and tree branches before steeling their car and wallet, but that was in Bourke and that’s exactly why we camp out of these towns.
The aboriginal art is displayed on the shelter that Des took over with the exception of the defaced Emu, and know, I didn’t do it.
13-05-2019 Once again we’re camped in the middle of nowhere with no one around and we missed this that opportunity to have a fire and there’s heaps of wood, we’re bloody hopeless.
We drive into Bourke to vote only to find out Wednesday was the day and there’s no way we’re staying here for three day so after some lunch we left for Cunnamulla where we’ve also been, but we have to go through these towns to reach the heart of the Channel Country.
Travelling along the Mitchell Highway to Barringun where we cross the border to Queensland at 1.24pm. The inland N.S.W is very dry as we passed many under nourished cattle, so when we saw rain water covering the land it was a pleasant surprise.
Arriving at Cunnamulla to vote but first I have to get a photo with the Cunnamulla Feller.
The Cunnamulla Fella is a song written by Stan Coster and sung by Slim Dusty. He is an iconic Australian Bush character.
