20150522 NT Timber Creek to Lake Argyle
20150522 Now for another long teadest trip of nothing to see but bitumen and land so I might have a snooze while Des drives. We camped at Mathison Rest Area which looked OK until Des went to the drop loo and came out gaging, the smell was so bad that when he lifted the lid to pee the fly’s nearly carried him away, he could taste it in his month for hours afterword’s, in fact that night the smell lingered through our bedroom window which we promptly closed.
Apart from the smell it wasn't a bad camp ground.
23-05-2015 We didn’t hang around for breakfast we decided to stop at Sullivan Campground up the road a bit. Des pulled up and opened the door and when I looked out there was a big terd on the ground, Oo that’s discusding and I quickly shut the door then Des came out of the toilet and stunk the van out, spray ya dirty pig, god I can’t get away from it.
Who in their right mind would travel Australia on a pushy, that's what I call Dumb Dumbs.
Timber Creek Rest Stop for the locals, waiting for the pub to open more like it.
At Timber Creek and it cost $95 for a crocodile trip up the Victoria River and we paid $30 in Darwin, talk about a rip off and again there’s nothing to see so we grabber a shower then head to Big Horse Creek Camp Grounds to park up for a couple of days.
The drinks started flowing and Linnie and Noel were trying to think of a nick name to remember Des when I said they call him killer at home and didn’t that get them going, Des told them the story how he got his nick name and we were all in fits of laughter, you must have been a bit of a bad boy in your day said Linnie. We all shared some of our life's funny experiences as we laughed the night away.

Our next stop was Timber Creek and scenery along the way is more delightful as we follow the unusual mountains.

We meet a lovely couple, Linnie and Noel who camped behind us and joined us for drinks which turned into a big night full of laughter plus I found a couple who enjoyed the giggle herb, bonus.
24-05-2015 Des walked past a couple packing up and was told we kept his wife up all night, it wasn’t that late was it, about 11.30 pm, well you will sleep well tonight he said and she glared at him. I called to Linnie, we just got into trouble for being too noisy last night, ar well ya get that.
As we were leaving to cross the W.A boarder we needed to cook all our veggies so we cooked a stew and invited Linnie and Noel over for dinner. Others were walking the camp given away there fruit and veggies while we were cooking or trying to eat our fruit.
I set up the rock table with candles and table cloth, we got out our wine glasses ready to eat.
Our guest Linnie and Noel her husband the noise one, just kidding Noel.
I set up my tripod but couldn't figure out how to change it from 2 sec and kept on missing the shoot but I did manage a couple.
Sitting around our table enjoying the camp fire dinner and I even had a Turkish roll I wrapped in alfoil and through in the coals.
Mr Piggy going back for 2nd s but I don't blame him it was yummy.
Every time I tried to get a photo Linnie moved and everyone was blurred, as you can see.

We had a great camp spot and no smelly toilets.
We were told stories on how strict they are at the boarder and were expecting to be searched from top to bottom but all he did was ask a couple of question checked the fridge and pantry and sent us on our, cool.
25-05-2015 Well! all good things must come to an end so we were up early to wake Linnie and Noel from their slumber to say our farewells before headed to the W.A boarder.
It's always good to meet great people, thanks Guys fore a great couple of days and we hope to catch up again one day.
Now that's not good.
A 130 k's on a straight road, man I'd love to have a V8 now, dam.
Thousands of termites nest cover the land and the odd thing about is they actually live under ground.

Ya we made it and the old van is still going.
Lake Argyle was our first stop and the first stop after you cross over into Western Australia, the Mountains and landscape are more rugged but appealing. We decided to stay at the only caravan park/shop/pub here for a couple of day so after parking up we walked around and my god it is a park with a million dollar view and in the tourist season would make a killing.
That night we had dinner at the pub while watching a movie on the Duracks, a struggling family who migrated to Australia from Ireland.
Des and I walked to the look out for a bit of exercise and the view was breath taken. It's had to imagine this land thousands of years ago before it was covered in this immense expanse of water leaving only their peaks exposed.
26-05-2015 In 1879 Alexander Forrest gave a glowing report of approximately 10 million hectares of fertile land creating great interest, one of which was the Duracks, Buchanans, and Osmonds who took three and a half years to complete their journey and suffered severe hardship to reach this land, it was to become the cattle empire of the Kimberley.
We did a 3.6 kl walk to the Bluff on a man made track which was bad enough, this is very rocky terrain and after watching the movie last night it's hard to imagine traveling over 6,000 kl on horse back and wagons in these very rugged mountains, you can just imagine the hard ship the pioneers endured.
Ya we made it to the top of the Bluff and even scored a photo, now to walk back 1.8 ks and I can feel a blister coming on.
Their is no reception here for anything so we would lay in bed with the air-con on watching movies or reading.
I'm board so I'm going for a swim in the pool with the million dollar view but I wish it had a heater it is freezing, the things you do just to get a photo.
The pool with the lake in front at sun rise, spectacular.
Lake Argyle from the air, this lake is 18 times the size of Sydney Harbor and is Australia's second largest lake.
Take off over the Lake, 10 minutes for $250 I don't think so but it did look cool.
Farewell to Lake Argyle
