20141006 Qld Cania Gorge to Monto
20141006 On our way to Monto when we noticed a sign for Cania Gorge, so we took a left turn and headed to the Gorge. Finally, we can have a good walk and get some much-needed exercise. Cania Gorge, with its wide landscape, caves and sandstone cliffs is the centerpiece of the National Park. Rock art on the cliff is a legacy of at least 19,000 years of Aboriginal occupation of the area.
The track winds through tall eucalyptus rainforest ending up at the Dripping Rock where cool water seeping from sandstone creates a haven for ferns and moss and that little person is my Des.
Camped up at Monto in the old train station behind the information centre then walked the town which has many shops shut down. We stopping for a beer at the Albert Hotel where I asked the publican why all the shops were closed down, no industry in Monto since the butter factory and the timber mills closed down. The council has been approached by companies to open factories in the area but for some stupid reason they all get rejected, and the council are supposed to be working for the people, what a joke.
07-10-2014 We woke to a very fogie morning unable to see through the fog so after breakie Des moved the van to wash the front and I went in search of some thongs as mine broke and I was wearing Desies, Yak.
Des shit himself as he turned the bend and nearly walked into this guy sunbathing on the path, don't go near it they have been known to run up your leg said Des and this guy was not moving so we had to throw a stick at him to move him on his way.
Arriving at Dragon Cave I pose for a photo under the massive rock, your to far away I can't see your face said Des, that's the wide angle lens just take it I said

The deserted main street of Monto on a Monday's public holiday, the roads in these towns were certainly made for the old horse and carriage.
The Hotel Albert is one of three constructed in an early period of the town's history, 1930 but I only saw two the other being the Grand.
It's such a shame to see a such a Hotel as the Grand slowly deteriorating. The town has no employment and sense the .05 law the clientele is limited, you have to wonder how two pubs keep afloat in this town. We were told the pub is for sale, the owners just wont out so they can travel in there motor-home sitting stagnate behind the hotel.
