20140929 Qld Blackwater
20140929 We went directly to the Bedford Weir just before Blackwater where we meet up with Rod and Joan whom Des meet a at Emerald, park over here mate there’s lots of room said Rod so we settled in around a lovely shady tree. Rod decided to lower his boat off his truck and set it up in preparation for their fishing adventure on the Weir. With the boat ready to go out came the chain saws and off the boys go in search of wood and ended up with enough for a week.
On the 6th November 1867 tragic events occurred at the Makenzie River crossing resulting in the only double murder of Police Officers in the history of the Queensland Police Service. The Police Troopers were escorting £4,000 with the gold commissioner and former magistrate (Thomas Griffin) who stole £500 from the escort then realised he would be suspected returned to steal all the money, he shoot the two Troopers in the head and made it look like bush-rangers. Griffin became under suspicion when it was learnt that money he paid to some Chinese gold digger had been part of the money stolen, he was convicted of both murders after a trial lasting eight days, now theirs an interesting bit of history for you
30-09-2014 The boys collected their yabby pots and fishing lines and hit the Weir with the hope of returning with a feed fit for a king. With the boys gone I decided to take a walk around the Weir, the sad thing was the amount of plastic bottles and cans thrown into burnt out fires left over by what I assumed to be young kids, I carried a plastic bag to pick up the odd empty bottles, I'm not that keen there it was everywhere but I did manage a bag, that was my good deed for the day. We decided not to defrost any meat on the off chance our men would bring home a big catch, they pulled in bragging about the big one but unfortunately it got away, “whatever”.
20141001 I was at the boat ramp waiting for the guys to get some photos when Rod said would you like to come fishing with us, why not. We pulled the first pots and caught just two yabbies then the next two they got one baby yabby, not much sense in leaving them here so Des baited the pots and they dropped them in a new location, now for some fishing.
By 12 am Des and I had enough so we headed home but then Rod, trying to be nice went past the ramp so I could get more photos when the motor stopped, we were drifting towards the dam wall so Rod gave us the ores, Des and I rowed while Rod tried to start the motor. Try this said Des, it’s not that said Rod and they started arguing like Father and Son, stop arguing you pair I said. Lucky we weren’t far from the ramp where I got out and walked back to the camp and left them to it. Once back at camp Rod found the tube in the tank was kinked stopping the pump from sucking and in no time he had it up and running. That night the caretaker (Rick) joined us as we sat around the fire drinking and laughing at Rods many yarns till late and me falling to sleep in my chair as usual giving the guys more to laugh at.
This guy was freaking out over his reflection and was burring up and attacking the bull bar thinking it was another male trespassing in his territory,
f_ _k off and Des would chase the poor fellow away.
03-10-2014 As the Saratoga Fishing Comp started on Saturday and Rick told us he was expecting thousands of boaties and campers which also meant lots of lovely children so we decided to pack up and hit the road, don't get me wrong I love kids, "in small portions".

This was once a large Barra caught at the Weir hanging from the sign just as you turn left off the main road heading towards the Weir.

This is Rods very impressive Ford F250 XLT 7.3 Turbo Diesel V8 decked out to the max.he carries everything you could ever imagine. The trailer for the boat pulls apart and rest on the back of his off the caravan.
The way these pair argued it was like they were Father and Son but also best fishing buddies.
Buy to a great week with Joan and Rod.
