20111130 Updated Qld Carnarvon Gorge
20111130 There goes Des he dropped me of then pissed off & left me (prick) naa just kidding but I just had to get a photo of where we were.
The road to the Gorge |
We arrived at Carnarvon Gorge after 19 klms of corrugated dirt road Des was not a happy chappy it shook the shit out of the Winnebago and moved the fridge so we had to chock it up for more support. We signed in at the national park at 12.15 pm & begun our walk up the gorge, I'm not sure how Des will cope he's not much of a walker so this should be interesting.

Walk up the Gorge |
Entrance to the Amphitheatre, this place is amazing.
We step into the Amphitheatre that is known for its remarkable acoustics, except for when I try to sing.
Its hard to capture the immensity of this place, it just blows your mind, even Des got excited except now we have a 2 hour walk back down and its bloody hot, Des reckons it's about 34 deg.
Arriving back at camp at 3:30pm we signed out and decided to stay the night in the National Park. After paying for the night, $34.00 we parked up and Des set up our table then we opened a well deserved beer. Chicken & salad for tea while sitting out side watching the wild life then a storm started coming over that hit real quick, so it was a mad rush to pack everything away. We decided to play Yahtzee and cards (fish) Des talked shit and we laughed heaps while listening to our music, we had a great night.
20111201 The next morning we woke surrounded by
leaves and branches every were, when we were cooking breakfast, an American
tourist walked past and asked if we herd that storm last night that her mother
had a large branch fall on her tent, but she was fine. We couldn't believe it;
we heard a bit of wind but it didn't seem that bad. It just goes to
show after a few drinks and a little smoke how well you sleep but we did over
indulge, as we do. After breaky I took the dishes to the wash area where
I meet a lovely couple who did the walk to the top of the gorge and said it
was amazing to see. After a lovely chat we said our goodbyes as it was time to
leave. Des is hoping the dirt road might be a bit softer after the rain last
night but he did take it a lot slower going down which wasn't as rough.
On the way up we noticed a weird sculpture so we stopped for a look &
photos.
The cairn was erected by the Roma boy scouts and the Roma & Injune RSL in memory of the Australian and American personal aboard the C47B Dakota which crashed during a violent electrical storm on the 16th Nov 1943 leaving no survivors.
