20260729 Driving along the Landsborough Hwy, it’s certainly drought stricken out here as we head to Mungallala, stopping at Morvan first to do some much needed washing. We wonder the town but nothing’s changed from the last time we camped down the back of the town so we left for Mungallala, a town with just a population of 85 in the 2021 census. We were lucky if we saw a half a dozen people and two of them were campers. It was in the late 1800’s the town was defined by its Indigenous heritage, Cobb & Co coaches, and the railway, with the towns name meaning "food and water". There is a pub that wasn’t open the whole time we were there, petrol stations that haven’t operated in Christ know’s how long, no convenient store or post office but there is a well kept hall just across from our camp and a sports ground that doesn’t look like its been used in years. 20260724 Another one of those friendly towns on our path towards home, Tambo where we once broke down and had to sit in the garage driveway for a week waiting for parts to arrive but this time I’m here to have my hair dyed. Once I arrived we realised I’m missing a product and couldn’t use my own dyes but the hair dresser sorted it out and I left minus the grey strip. We parked down a side street near the park where we cooked dinner before going to the Chicken Race at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel. The idea is too raise as much money as possible for different charities by betting on a chicken and the highest bidder wins that chicken, once all the chicken have been sold the race begins and the first chicken across the line is the winner and the owner wins the kitty. The last time here we had lots of fun but this time it dragged out and the drinks were very expensive, so after the race we left. 20260720 Here we are again on the Barcoo R iver and someone’s in our usual spot, but we were nice and let them stay. Out come the yabbie pots and off he goes walking through the bush to his secret spot. A couple camped near the river said it was too stagnate to catch yabbies but in he goes anyway. After a couple of hours he’s off to check his pot, a bit embarrassed when he returns with two tiny yabbies showing the campers who Promptly walked off and returned with a huge mud crab. Here mate I have a freezer full of them as he proceeds telling Des the tale of tubs they caught in Darwin, then out comes the photos, and Des was certainly impressed. Des returned home yelling Lee, look what I caught holding up a mud crab in a sealed plastic bag, ya sure, so you caught it in the plastic bag, 😂.  We meet Lee-Ann and Rodger for a few drinks even though Lee-Ann doesn’t drink any more but she makes up for it with many a good old yarns and lots of laughs. 20260717 One of the many towns we've visited in the past and who history goes back to 1863 when it was established as a service town for railway construction workers, just like all the other small towns these days We found showers at the Showgrounds in Alpha then Des took advantage of the surroundings and washed the bugs from the van. He was going to leave for Jericho but it was getting late so we camped in the free camp in Alpha that also has showers. The town hasn’t changed since the last time we were here, the town still has no Pub the butcher is closed and there’s a small SPAR for supplies and an information centre that sells home made items. I found this one mural on the closed butchers shop wall, its a tribute to the Brahman Breed, no thats appropriate for a butchers shop.  These are scrap metal sculptures of a bull, a cow named "Daisy," and a calf named "Snowflake" located in Alpha, Queensland.
