20250407 Arriving at The Hotel Attica21 that’s apparently supposed to be the benchmark hotel in Las Rozas, Madrid, well so far our lift wasn’t at the airport to meet us so I guess we will wait and see. We checked in and headed to our room for a small rest to reset our body clock to Spain times, after our rest we decided to walk the streets and checked out our surroundings, the weather was fine and the sun shining but it’s still a bit chilly as we stroll the streets taking in the sites.
It’s said that Las Rozas may have been a Roman mansión or staging-post called Miacum, where the name Madrid may have arrived although it is somewhat speculative but evidence of occupation in about the 3rd century of the Common Era (year notations for the Gregorian Calendar) when the Roman Empire was active in Spain.
Our home for the next week.

Our room with an extra bed at the end for Hamish although he did try his charming tactics on Grandma to swap beds, in your dreams baby.

There are 90 rooms: from $61 - $136 (USD) and most seemed to be filled with athletes like football and basketball players due to the tournaments on this time of the year.
The boys were having a play on the lawn kicking there ball around while Sharyn, Polly and I watched while the manager glared at us until Polly approached him and asked if everything was okay, yes he replied but he looked at us quite sternly.
Grandma and grandson in the park on Chile Street, Las Rozas, Spain.
Mum and Son, just chilling and talking in the spring sun.
We passed this abandoned building on our walk with some interesting graffiti which seems common in and around Madrid. Graffiti is a big part of the landscape and from what I’ve seen most is illegal which, if caught is a fine up to €3,000.
We found a grocery store and as you walk through the door the first sense of smell is of seafood, not a pleasant smell, Spain is big on seafood and its sold in most grocery shops.🍣 🦞 🍤
I’m assuming this is ham and when I looked it up Ham is one of Spain’s best-known culinary treasures, different types of the cured meat offer their own flavours depending on the breed of pig, how the animal was fed and raised and how its meat has been processed and cured. The serrano (green chilly) ham marked as “de bodega” is aged around 9-12 months, while ham labeled “reserva” is aged around 12-14 months and the “gran reserva” is aged for 15 months or more, wow thats much different than our ham from home it’s cured by salting or smoked.🤷♀️
We continued down the streets and found what looked like a dog park, but its a 910,73 ha of green space for hikers or just taking a leisurely stroll and if you happen to see any blackberries, mushrooms, asparagus or aromatic plants feel free to pick them while respecting your natural surroundings.
We returned to our hotel more weary which was our aim so we had a bite to eat before retiring to our room, the beds were comfortable and it was a bit warm but unfortunately there was no aircon and when asked about it apparently there don’t supply aircon this time of the year, two strikes down.
