20240314 NSW Deepwater

Image
20240316 Just north of Glen Innes lies the small town of  Deepwater, which in 1839 a Station was taken up as a pastoral property and a  village was created on the northern bank of the Deepwater River. We all know with every town comes a Pub so in 1865 the Deepwater Hotel was Established, now called the Longhorn Hotel, and the  Aborigines name for Deepwater is Talgambuun, meaning dry country with many dead trees. The Hotel is not just a hotel but a free camp ground with many rooms for rent and not to mention the wonderful meals and great hospitality. What can I say, if you need a good laugh head to the bottom pub, the Longhorn, I'm sure you will meet some of the locals who will put a smile on your dial and these ladies certainly had us laughing, thanks ladies for making our stay memoriable. The Longhorn Bar and Grill is at the bottom of the town. The rain is coming so we camped up beside the Pub to see it out and with free power, bonus. The interior of the hotel, a typical...

20240313 Qld The Sandy Creek Pub to Jennings

20240313   We have no definite plans apart from being in Stanthorpe on Thursday so after checking Wiki Camp we decided to check out Allan, a small rural town in the Southern Downs Region in Queensland with a population of only 87, formerly known as Sandy Creek. On our arrival we parked in the free camp provided then walked the grounds and stepped into the pub for a beer before we continued our walk around the grounds. There are no houses in site just the Pub, the bush and wide open space. Just 10km outside of Warwick on Sandy Creek Road at the start of the Sprint Route through to Leyburn stands the Sandy Creek Pub where Des trys to get a little grunt in his day. The Sandy Creek Hotel, which has been open for over 120 years, is a famous watering hole, the hotel is best known for the prodigious amounts of alcohol served to the US soldiers during World War II, who had a camp in close proximity. It was a wednesday when we arrived and after seeing the great reviews we decided to dine o...

20240311 Qld Thornlands to Freestone

20240311 It's that time of the year when we pack up the old Winnebago and set off towards the colder climate in search of that special camp site somewhere on a river with lots of wood so we can sit around a fire while listening to our music and downing a few ales, as we do.  We left home just after 1pm and headed east towards the Great Dividing Range stopping at Aratula to stretch our legs when we noticed a car and camper van over the embankment, we were lost for words how they did this. The mind boggles, and this is a rather straight road. I’ve lost count how many times we have seen this familiar site as we climb The Great Dividing Grange and I still can’t find the name of this bloody Mountain. We h ad to stop for roadworks as we climbed the Great Dividing Range, and I watched on as these wire nets are dropped from the top of the ridge, these roadworks are taking for ever, we passed them on our way home last year. We arrived at the Maryvale Crown Hotel which Des recons was opened ...
