20220728 Qld Dalby to Westmar

Image
20220728 We decided to head to Dalby to catch up with Sue and Richard for a couple of day and take advantage of their hospitality and wash some cloths then sit back and watch Sue cook up a mean roast as we watch on, this one doesn’t like anyone in her kitchen while she’s cooking, ha, that suits me. This is Molly, Sue’s granddaughter and I was so taken by her pretty eyes I just had to get some photos, she’s a keeper Sue. Richard take’s me for a drive to check out the new two million dollar upgraded camping grounds just out of Dalby called, Lake Broadwater. 20220729 After telling Des about the new campgrounds we decided to pack up and stay for a couple of days and hopefully have a fire, if this bloody wind ever stops. It's easy to see Dalby is a large Cotton and Sorgan farm industry as we pass many along the way, but that isn't all that's happening in the Northern Darling Down's as we noticed the gas pipeline wells being drilled on some of the farms. As many farmers raise...

20220726 Qld Cecil Plains

Image
20220726 We drove straight through to Cecil Plans and camped on the hill overlooking the weir at the Cecil Planes Homestead, it wasn’t what I expected but it was quiet and peaceful and if it wasn’t for the wind, it would be lovely. The town is surrounded by rich, black soils and was originally used for raising cattle and sheep, but since the 1960s, the area turned its attentions to cotton and is now one of the richest cotton-producing areas in the southern hemisphere. Our camp for the next couple of days overlooking the Condamine River It was in 1841 a Henry Stuart Russell laid claim to a property he called Cecil Plain Station after his family name. The 200,000-acre station stretched from a tree marking the boundary of Yandilla station on the Condamine to Oakey Creek and back to Jondaryan. It was resumed by the government in 1916, until it was divided into soldier settlement blocks in 1919. This old water tower overlooks the Homestead. This well made shed has certainly stood the test o...

20220721 Qld Millmerran

Image
20220721 Well, here we are once again in little old Millmerran, we pull into the showgrounds where Des finds a spot on a cement slab only to find out they moved the caravan park over to the Pony Club, but the caretaker Allan was kind enough to let us stay after Des spun him a yarn about his concerned over the rain heading our way. We only intended to stay until after the rain but then Allan was looking for some volunteered to help with their Xmas in July festival on this Saturday so we hang around to help set up, the bonus was we were upgraded to the under covered area of the shed, Des was happy that. 20220724  We were up early to set up and decorate the settings, the store holders arrived to display their home made wares, toys and let’s not forget the ice cream stall that's always a big hit with the kids. It was a gold coin donation to enter with all the rides free for the kids. Scotty sent a text saying: You don't get that every day, four Head-Hunters and a Pygmy, rare as ...

20220718 Qld Maryvale, Karara to Millmerran

Image
20220718 We were home for a week just to get some repairs completed, cook and freeze some dinners and catch up with family and friends but now the big decision is where to go next, but it really doesn’t matter. We left around 2ish heading towards Warwick and after getting through that dreaded school traffic we take the Ipswich motorway that leads you onto the Cunningham Highway but as it’s getting late, we turned off to camp at the Maryvale Hotel were there’s free camping but unfortunately the pub is closed Monday and Tuesday. This is what I would call a spunky looking rig and it’s only use as a show truck. I love the painting of Marilyn Munro displayed on the trucks cabin but really, tattoos on Marilyn, I don’t think so.   The tanker adds that finishing touch to this spunky unit.  I wondered to the park and found the trees covered in colourful knitted and crocheted items that sure brightens up the park, apparently it has something to do with the festival that’s on in Warwick....
