20190412 NSW Bendemeer

20190412 A new camp and new memories in a little village named Bendemeer not far from Tamworth on the Macdonald River N.S.W, originally the village was named Macdonald River but then in 1853 was changed after a river that flows near the ruins of Chilminar in Iran.  The author of the famous poem Lalla Rookh in which appears the following line “There’s a bower of roses by Bendemeer’s stream”, I’m not sure about roses but there’s certainly lots of bush shrub.

The beautiful view of Bendemeer, surrounded by rolling hills, this is such a pretty town and the old bridge just adds to the charm.

Our camp for the next few days and we can have a fire.

13-04-2019 After leaving Guyra the weather has been amazing so I threw on some shorts, grabbed my Kobo and found a nice spot in the sun and got quietly engrossed in reading my Bryce Courtenay book I’ve been reading for months, I really need to stop falling asleep in the bath.  I think I've had enough sun so we walked to town through the park when a dog came up to us, hello I said, then the bloody thing attacked us, I yelled out to some boys, is this your dog mate and he came running, first rule of dogs, never look at a dog just keep on walking, poor Des shit himself.

For over 80 years the bridge was a big part of the Bendemeer town until the town was bypassed in 1985.

The bridge is now heritage listed for its engineering value and striking 90 metre long structure with its Dare wooden side trusses, apparently it is believed to be one of the few examples of that engineering technic left in N.S.W, I just love old bridges.

At sunset and if you’re luck enough you can see platypus under the bridge.

As we come around the bend to our surprise there's a howl new part of the town tucked away then the Hotel hits you in the face, not what we expected.
This is a really lovely Hotel with a large beer garden, it just makes you want a beer.
The Hotel over looks the Macdonald River, what a lovely stop for a cold beer but the menu is a bit pricy for a country town.
Every three years Bendemeer host a Grey Fergie Muster, about 150 tractors and 40 Land Rover’s gather to show off a slice of history through this historic little rural town.
I'll be sure to have a coldie for you all.
