20160515 NSW Gulgong to Premer
20160515 Gulgong- is a “must not miss” town just west of the Great Dividing Range, while the peak of the gold rush only lasted 10 or so years the impact on the town has been everlasting. A Tom Saunders, discovery of gold at Red Hill (on the edge of Gulgong) in 1870 lured prospectors to the site and for a brief time period the town thrived. The gold fields had been totally worked by 1880 and Gulgong shrank from a population of around 20,000 to 2,200 leaving behind this well preserved Historical Town.
I work all night, I work all day to pay the bills, I have to pay,
ain't it sad,
In my dreams I have a plan,
To one day be a wealthy man.
How fitting, Desie’s mug on a $10 note.
ain't it sad,

To one day be a wealthy man.
How fitting, Desie’s mug on a $10 note.
The note has great significance for the people of Gulgong with Henry Lawson, his poetry and scenes of Gulgong in the 19th century including the Times Bakery
The Times Bakery was established in 1962 and is now home to the Pioneers Museum.
They say Gulgong has not changed much over the 100 plus years with around 130 of the town’s building listed with the National Trust and I must say walking through the narrow, bendy streets sure does take you back in time.
The town is lined with historical buildings, many 140 years old with iron lacework and verandas over the footpath and let’s not forget the horse trough.
Prince of Wales Opera House built in 1871 even becoming internationally famous with Dame Nellie Melba singing and Les Darcy Fighting at the Prince of Wales Opera House, the longest continually operating opera house in Australia.
This is a grand old, well preserved historical town, well done Gulgong.
We camp at Premer a little town in the heart of wheat country and the silo is a predominant land mark in the village, its the only land mark.
16-05-2016 With only a shop and a pub there's not much to do or see in tiny town Premer except walk the streets so off we toddle for our daily exercise and the most interesting site are the silos.
Each night we sat around the fire with Bet a lady we meet at the camp site who brought a metal waste paper basket for a camp fire, what a cleaver idea and light to carry.
18-05-2016 Ok, enough drinking so we packed up,said our goodbyes and left for Gunnedah to restock our supplies.
