20160503 NSW Cooma, Kosciuszko National Park, Talbingo to Tumut

20160503 We camped at Historic Nimmitabel forthe night and after checking the weather forecast it was to drop to 4 degrees, get that heater ready Des we’re in for a cold one.  We woke to a sunny morning but not as cold as we expected so we packed up and left for Cooma.

20160504 Driving into Cooma we parked in the back streets in an angle parking area but horizontally and walked to town to restock our supplies, only to find on our return a $106 parking ticket, you have got to be kidding.  Well! Of cause we marched off the Council to complain, there were no signs indicating where to park oversize vehicles and the officer even agreed with us and told us to wright a letter as he has been trying to get appropriate signage for oversize vehicles, this is what I call revenue collecting.

Cooma, the town who pick on the poor old grey nomads, we promptly left Cooma.

Driving along the Monaro Highway and the rolling hills shows the signs of the dry and deserlet terrain.
Kosciuszko National Park which covers 6,900 square kilometres and contains mainland Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko.
Our camp over looking the National Park.
Ha Des, check this out, it looks like it’s going to land here, Yep it sure did, well that’s our excitement for the day.
Des, chopping wood, well you know what that means, looks like we’re in for a big night.  Camp oven stew for dinner around the fire, my favorite, what more could you as for and as usual we made enough to feed an army.

05-05-2016 Again the weather through the day has been just awesome so off we go adventuring, down to the river we head to check out all the fishermen and their fish.  I can’t believe you have to pay to go fishing in NSW, what a crock of crap and we didn’t see one fish.
I found many large holes around the grounds and am sure they are wombat burrows and sure enough there he was so I ran back for my camera and Des but as we got closer he scurried inside, bugger.  We went in search of some more wood so it looks like another night cuddled around a fire, and what a fire it was, Des and I had collected so much wood we thought we would never burn it so we kept piling it on until we had a mini bon fire.

06-05-2016 The time has come to move on, this was a great camp ground just sitting back watching the many Roos jumping around and trying to see the elusive wombat while sitting around a fire having way to many drinks, but we had a great time.

Eastern Grey Kangaroos are everywhere in the National Park
I finally got to see a Wombat returning to it burrow after a days hunting how cute then we saw a dead one, not happy, we are assuming it was hit by a car, Arr too sad, and in a National Park.
Driving on the Snowy Mountain Highway and the area is surrounded with dead trees and it doesn’t look like a fire had gone through here.
We turned off to Talbingo a picturesque town on the shore of Lake Jounama and is surrounded by Kosciuszko National Park and supplies many holidays hut for the keen snow skier.
Camping on the Blowering Dam so Des can do the washing, well someone has to do it.

07-05-2016 With all the washing done and house work completed, complements of Des we hit the Snowy Highway for Tumut, known as a quite resting place by the river.

A fly by shoot of the Dam
I managed a fly by shoot of the Eucumbene River, descends 475 metres (1,562 ft) over its 84 kilometers (52mi) course, joined by seven minor tributaries.
Arriving into Tumut and the town is bustling with people and we discovered it's sports day.  Another town in N.S.W with no parking for big rigs as we driver around and around looking for some where to park.

After we walked the town we left to camp at our old spot and favorite town in Gundagai.
