20141011 Qld Maidenwell to Linville

Image
20141011  We arrived at Maidenwell only to find out caravans are not allowed down to the Coomba Water Hole, bugger but I can’t imagine why.   We cooked on the BBQ supplied and once again had to clean it first, some people are so lazy. Sitting in the van blogging and getting board, let’s go to the pub Des, do you want to, yep so off we toddle.   We meet Ken who camped beside us so we sat talking to him when Des saw Ted one of the bar guys he gave shit to when on a bike ride and they stayed the night. The King Hotel across the road from the camp area, much to handy. Do you remember me said Des, ye I think so but I don’t think he was real sure then Des introduced himself and they shook hands.   I'm the one who  gave you shit about being so slow serving drinks and Ted just laughs but he was quick witted and gave as much back. This is it for the town one multi purpose shop and cafe with the Pub across the road, what more do you...

Image
20141010 They have free showers in Nanango picking the key up from the information center I collected some leaflets on the town and were told of the many Chainsaw Sculptures and Murals spread throughout the town but first a shower.  All refreshed we walked the town in search of the local's art, displayed throughout the town depicting the history of the town which seemed to have more activity than the last time we were here. Lynch Sisters Nell & Kate Held their own Timber Chainsaw in a male dominated industry. Working together cutting down giant trees & clearing scrub for farmers.  The Lynch girls were highly respected expecting & receiving no favours due to their sex.  In 1908 they became well known because of their expertise with the axe and crosscut saw, they worked in the Bunya Mts dressed in long black dresses. 20141007 Qld Eidsvold to Ban Ban Springs

Image
20141007 Ceratodus Rest Area at Eidsvold we know this rest area from old trips, we camped next to a picnic table and claimed it as ours for the next couple of days.  The days are getting hotter, but we had a lovely breeze coming through, so we sat around our table reading and snoozing.  Relaxing away when a lady came out of nowhere and started chatting, Marlene was her name, she was 71 years and travels on her own in a little Van, a bit of a hippy she is but I’m sure she was checking us out to feel safe.  Fires are aloud and as we have been dying to have a camp oven, we pulled out a roast we brought weeks ago. My brother Shane told us to put a small amount of water in the bottom for the meat how do we do the veggies when a camper who joined us for drinks started to advise me, don’t go anywhere I said as I got out the veggies and did what he said, just leave them hole and through them in with the meat, how easy was that.  The meat was coo...

20141006 Qld Cania Gorge to Monto

Image
20141006 On our way to Monto when we noticed a sign for Cania Gorge, so we took a left turn and headed to the Gorge.  Finally, we can have a good walk and get some much-needed exercise.   Cania Gorge, with its wide landscape, caves and sandstone cliffs is the centerpiece of the National Park.   Rock art on the cliff is a legacy of at least 19,000 years of Aboriginal occupation of the area. Des shit himself as he turned the bend and nearly walked into this guy sunbathing on the path, don't go near it they have been known to run up your leg said Des and this guy was not moving so we had to throw a stick at him to move him on his way.  Arriving at Dragon Cave I pose for a photo under the massive rock, your to far away I can't see your face said Des, that's the wide angle lens just take it I said The track winds through tall eucalyptus rainforest ending up at the Dripping Rock where cool water seeping from sandstone creates a haven for ferns and m...

UP 20141003 Qld Duaringa, Dululu to Jambin

Image
20141003 Parked up at Duaringa Rest Area for a quite night with no alcohol then we meet some people who invited us over for a drink, there goes my not drinking tonight so we joined them along with half the park.  We had some good chats and picked up on some ideas both good and bad.  Des asked if anyone has problems with their fridge when turned over to battery while driving along as ours doesn’t stay very cold.  Leave the gas on all the time said one guy, what, while you’re travelling along, isn’t that illegal said Des, if you had an accident you could lose your insurance, how would they know he said. A lovely rest area if it wasn't for the  coal trains running all bloody night. One of the native birds in the area and he was always on his own. 👄👄  04-10-2014 After a sleepless night we decided to move on but before leaving one of our drinking companions from last night said to Des, I wouldn't listen to him no one I know ever leaves the gas on while trave...
