20140929 We went directly to the Bedford Weir just before Blackwater where we meet up with Rod and Joan whom Des meet a at Emerald, park over here mate there’s lots of room said Rod so we settled in around a lovely shady tree.  Rod decided to lower his boat off his truck and set it up in preparation for their fishing adventure on the Weir.  With the boat ready to go out came the chain saws and off the boys go in search of wood and ended up with enough for a week. Tragic Event On the 6th November 1867 tragic events occurred at the Makenzie River crossing resulting in the only double murder of Police Officers in the history of the Queensland Police Service.  The Police Troopers were escorting £4,000 with the gold commissioner and former magistrate (Thomas Griffin) who stole £500 from the escort then realised he would be suspected returned to steal all the money, he shoot the two Troopers in the head and made it look like  bush-rangers .  Griffin became under s...

20140921 Qld Wandoan, Rolleston to Emerald

20140921 We drove onto Miles looking for somewhere to shower but the garages only catered for the men but that didn't stop me, we continued onto Wandoan and all the time watching the storm clouds roll in, this doesn't look good.  Again, these town have nothing to see, if it wasn't for the mines, I don't know how they would survive. 20140922 After sitting in the van all day reading and sleeping, we are getting bored so as the pub is the only source of entertainment, I guess that will have to do.  It's not the most appealing country pub I have been to, but they played great music, and it was loud, enough to drown Mr have a chat out anyway, just joking. Des found an abandoned weigh bridge in the industrial area at the back of the shops.  Our home for the next couple of days, he's such a romantic. 23-09-2014 Going back over some old grounds we headed to Moura to camp on the Dawson River where we stayed in 2011 and we loved it but the wate...

Image
20140915  With the vans all packed we hit the road once again for another short trip, this time heading towards Esk then inland to a rest area at Ravensbourne only once there the rest area wasn't very appealing so we left for Chapman Park Rest area at Hampton only this time we had no reception and we so wonted to watch Home and Away tonight only to see who gets killed, (how boring are we)  so we left for Crow’s Nest only stopping for a quick photo.  A memorial to Jimmy Crow who lived in the area and gave the town its name.  An exceptional tracker and traditional man who lived in his gunya which was a big hollow tree, it is said that he knew the area well and would often help people who came through on horseback with directions.  He was the only aboriginal after whom a town was named. Onto Cooyar, Swinging Bridge Park where we camped up for three days with the added bones of power for a donation at the local drinking h...
