20120623 Qld Balgal Beach to Rollingstone
20120623 Checked out Balgal Beach but the camp site was full, bummer I could have settled in here for a few days and just take in the sun, do a bit of fishing, but the nice spots are always taken, and
if you camp outside the campground the police move you on and after what happened in Bowen, we didn’t won’t
to chance another fine.
Many fish along the banks but didn't seem to be catching much.
Rollingstone: Settled in 1883 by John Lambert, the district was originally a pastoral lease known as Armidale. The major tributary running through the centre of Armidale was known as Rollingstone Creek, due to the round shape of the rocks found in the creek bed. The district name of “Rollingstone” gained popularity during the construction of the bridge over the creek. The name of the district was later changed to Rollingstone in 1902 to help save from confusion with Armidale, NSW.
We parked up in Bushy Parker Park in Rollerstone on a fresh water creek and it's still to cold to swim.
Des was keen to go crabbing but you need a boat, and the crocks played a big part of his decision.

Ran into a couple we meet at the Rabbit Trap Hotel and came yabbying with us Richard and Jennie, what a great surprise. Jennie told me of some great camping spots
while Des and Richard caught up but we had to leave for Rollingstone before we
missed out on a camp spot.

I spotted this bridge going into Balgal Beach and asked Des to stop when head out for some photos. All
the pylons are painted with murals of the heritage of the town and look very impressive,
well I thought so, Des couldn’t give a shit.
Built in 1914 and ceased operation in 1992 and relocated in 1998. The original building was much larger in size and accommodated Refreshment rooms a kitchen with wood burning stove a bedroom for the Station Master's Office, and many others. Section of the building was destroyed by Cyclone Althea in 1971.
I was checking out the creek when some back packers asked if there were crocks down their? naaa you'll be right mate.
24-06-2012 Des was getting boared so we went for a bike ride around the town which didn't take long, stopped at the shop for the paper then back to our camp site.
We went for another ride only this time down a dirt track, that's far enough said Des, just ride to the end of this road, his legs were starting to shake so we turned around and went home, he's such a sook.
