20230611 Qld Wingadee RA:53ks Rest Area

Image
After a great time at the rodeo it’s time to move on as we pack up and head towards Walgett just  a 115km’s down the road, then Des noticed a race track just out of town which seems like a good place to watch his fan, we turned around and sure enough there’s everything he needs, thank god that’s done, at least until the next downpour of rain hits. On the road again travelling along Castlereagh Highway when I say a rest stop just 50km down the road, Des was keen to keep going but it’s getting late, well about 2 ish but that’s late enough so we camped at Wingate RA:53ks Rest Area. We take over the rest area with a mural of the local birds. This Emu roaming the camp ground picking up god knows what. This Willie Wag Tail happerly hops around me keeps me company while Des cooks dinner. 20230612 The rains heading our way again so we stayed put on our solid grounds, there’s not a thing to do because we’re in the middle of no where with the only people you see are the odd campers stopping ...

20230607 NSW Coonamble & Rodeo & Campdraft

Image
On our way to Coonamble when we hit the crossroads, B55 Castlereagh Highway to Coonamble a really rough road before we arrive in Coonamble. We were going to camp at the Showgrounds but it’s closed due to a rodeo in town this weekend, we should volunteer Des, so we stop at the information centre for more details. I got a mobile number but the grounds they were preparing for campers was that black soil and Des was sceptical if it rains so I found a camp just out of town, Nakadoo is a free farm stay just out of town. We stayed long enough to see the rain out and sat around the fire pit chattering with fellow campers. Des and I cracked up watching these Ducks follow each other all in a row, now you don’t get to see that very often. A great free farm stay just out of town with all types of animals roaming the grounds. Someone’s happy in her little part of the world as she takes watched over her chicks below. I opened the gate and they all rushed me expecting food and they didn’t look ...

20230603 NSW Cobar, Nevertire to Warren

Image
We left for Cobar, and noticed there are definitely more cars on the road and it doesn’t seem as barren with more trees and much taller than  our first time here . The weather has sure taken a turn after leaving SA as we head into the heat of the outback to Cobar.  We pass lots of goats grazing on the side of the road and quite a few crossings in front of us then Des breaks as little pig tries his luck crossing the road in front of us.  We arrived in Cobar and stopped at the garage for a shower when we noticed a woman in a truck waving vigorously and shaking her head at Des, he goes to see what her problem was, apparently he’s parked the wrong way,  well that’s all you had to say, grumpy old bag. After our well needed shower we head to the RSL club where they supply a free camp, that’s us for the night. The long straight road into Cobar. Great Western Hotel, Home of Australia's Longest Verandah was established in 1898, now that’s what I call a lovely old Queensland P...

20230601 NSW Broken Hill to Wilcannia

Image
On our way to Broken Hill, here we go again driving over 200ks along B79, the Silver City Hwy, when we noticed blue pipes spread out along the way, apparently it’s the new pipeline supplying water to Broken hill. We just spotted a creek at Anabranch South so Des turned around hoping there could be yabbies, when meet a couple of young guys who were heading out in their Dinghy to drop their yabbie pots, so on that note Des decided to stay, well by hook or by crook I’m having a fire as I head out to  collect some wood while Des dropped his pots. The guys in their dingy returned so we went to check out their catch and holy shit they had half a large bucket, and that was only their first pull, well we were impressed. After seeing what the guy caught Des went to check on his but returned empty handed. A great camp with plenty of firewood and a lovely night to down a few beers while Des  and I talk crap , as long as I have a fire I’m happy 😊  A photo of the Bunnerunge Bridge Ri...
