20200801 We are on our way to check out the coal mine at Moura if we can find it, the towns information centers seem to have little knowledge of whats around their area and we a constantly getting bad directions, but thanks to Wiki and my skills we arrived at the viewing platform. As we turned off the main road the mine came into site. Walking towards the platform and at first I though there was a statue of an Emu looking over the site but as I got closer I realised it was a large cut off tree, and no I haven't been drinking. Coal has been mined at Moura since 1961, making this one of the oldest operations in central Queensland and also hosts Australia’s first commercial coal-bed methane recovery operation. It was Moura mine in 1961 that became the first Australian coal mine to export coal to Japan then in 1963 it became the first mine to use drag-lines as part of its mining operation.
