20120731 Qld Longreach

Image
20120731 We were heading to Longreach when we noticed a van parked up off the road near a creek, that's looks like a great spot to camp I said to Des, do you won't to check it out said Des, ya let's.  Turning around we headed back and saw a different camp on the opposite side, all to ourselves and overlooking the Thomson.  We parked up and I went in search of some firewood while Des set up the van.  I set the fire up ready for the night ahead while Des organized dinner then we sat back and relaxed. The view from our camp over the Thomson River. Our camp site near the river. After dinner we lit the fire, set up our chairs, turned on our music and enjoyed a few drinks and later on a dance.  Des said we should call Terene, so I did.  We just called to gloat, we chatted for a bit I told her of our location and we were on the piss, it's always good to here a friends voice.  It turned out a big night and we finally stagged to bed after 12...

20120729 Qld Winton

Image
20120729 On our way to Winton and a truck flew a rock up and cracked the windscreen, lucky it was at the bottom. It started travelling bit by bit and by the time we entered Winton it was about 6inch long but at least it wasn't in the drivers view, I wouldn't worry about fixing it until you’re ready to sell Des, just in case it happens again, good idea Lee, he said. We spotted our first pig running a across the road and we don't have a gun, Dam.  Sites on the way into Winton, Des and I noticed a track going around the back of these sites, we should camp in there, but we didn't. I could have gotten some great sun set and sun rise photos, well maybe sunset.  The two red bin were put there to stuff my fly by shoot. Driving into the town of Winton. At Winton we parked up behind the North Gregory Hotel with free hot showers for a donation to the flying doctors, bargan.  I finally have reception for the Internet but still no phone and it's my grand...

Image
20120727  Travelling to Cloncurry and our first stop was Burk & Wills Roadhouse, you can camp at the back of the hotel but it was still early and there's nothing to hang around for so we drove on and camped at Terry Smith Lookout, just a look out. A fly by shoot of the ant nest out here and there everywhere. I'm still trying to catch a decent shoot of an Eagle and this one was on the road as we entered Birk & Wills Roadhouse, once we stopped, I ran back to get a clearer shoot, but the bugger didn’t return. The first sign of settlers as we enter Burke & Wills Roadhouse after travelling over 300ks of nothing but land and the occasional tree.   See it's just a Roadhouse 28-07-2012  We woke to a cold and windy day and headed for Cloncurry when we saw a sign for a rodeo, we sooo won’t to see a real country rodeo, we should find out where it’s on Des? When we reached Cloncurry we asked one of the locals, ya it alright it behind the old hotel t...
